Guided tours, children’s activities, a birdwatching point at the Torre de los Pozos, a photography competition, technical sessions, streets decorated by local residents… The festival takes place on 17 and 18 April in a monumental complex that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In Cáceres, visitors can enjoy birdwatching with a wide variety of species (white storks, lesser kestrels, swallows, swifts, jackdaws…) set against the backdrop of squares, towers, churches and medieval palaces. This is what the 16th edition of the Bird Festival has to offer.
Organised by Extremadura Tourist Board in collaboration with the City Council, the Provincial Council of Cáceres and several conservation organisations, the event promotes and showcases the exceptional natural resources of the region and, in particular, of the city of Cáceres. Within its municipal boundaries lie three Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs): Llanos de Cáceres and Sierra de Fuentes; Sierra de San Pedro; and the Lesser Kestrel Colony of the Monumental City, where the festival’s activities are concentrated.
Over the two days, there are ornithological routes through the historic centre, birdwatching in urban parks and at the Torre de los Pozos, electric bike rides through the Llanos de Cáceres and the Sierra de la Mosca, entertainment shows, children’s workshops run by various associations, technical sessions on conservation and tourism, and much more.
