Slightly smaller than the White Stork, with dark plumage with green and violet iridescence on the back and wings, with a white belly. The bill, legs and eye-ring are red. Unlike the White Stork, it is a shy and timid species, very difficult to watch in its natural habitat. It feeds on fish, snakes and crayfish. It arrives in Extremadura to breed towards the end of March, leaving for sub-Saharan Africa at the end of the summer.
