A small pigeon-sized falcon with long wings and tail, allowing the bird to hover in the air to search for its small prey, then dropping quickly to the ground to pounce. The diet comprises small mice, shrews, grasshoppers and crickets. They nest in trees and holes in buildings in cultivated land or in towns, preferring to hunt in dehesas and pasture with scattered trees. They are present in Extremadura throughout the year.
