Somewhat larger than a Moorhen, with matt black plumage with a white bill and shield. They occur in reservoirs, lakes and wetlands where they make a floating nest to incubate their eggs. After hatching the chicks will swim, following the female in search of aquatic invertebrates and vegetable matter. They occur throughout the year.
