It has a body smaller than a dove, but with very long wings, generally pale grey plumage with black cap and red bill and legs. It feeds on insects and other aquatic invertebrates that are captured in flight. Often they hunt in small groups of up to five birds. They build floating nests in wetlands. They are present in Extremadura in spring and summer.
