A small owl, with greyish brown back, mottled white and a brown-barred pale belly. It lacks “ear” tufts and its eyes are large and yellow. It occurs in olive groves, open dehesas and arable land where it takes small prey items such as grasshoppers, crickets and small amphibians. It is present throughout the year, remaining close to its nesting area.
