A bird with understated greyish-brown plumage, characterised by fine longitudinal streaking on the forehead and breast. It has a slender silhouette and typically hunts insects on the wing from open perches.

There is no sexual dimorphism. It prefers open woodland, dehesas, parks, gardens, and forest edges.

In Extremadura, it is a common summer visitor that arrives in spring to breed throughout the region, being especially frequent in the dehesas.
