Smaller than a sparrow, with brown back and an orange red breast. It moves on the ground in short hops and its jerky actions show off well its orange breast. It is mainly insectivorous, but will also eat small seeds and fruit. In winter it is common throughout Extremadura, but breeds only in the northern third of Extremadura, including Monfragüe, Canchos de Ramiro and in the southern third.
