A corvid with glossy black plumage and metallic highlights, distinguishable by its long, curved, and deep red bill. It is an exceptional aerial acrobat. There is no sexual dimorphism, although the male can be slightly larger.

It prefers rocky crags and cliffs.

In Extremadura, it is a common resident species in mountainous areas.
