Thanks to the excellent state of conservation of its habitats, Extremadura is an ornithological paradise that has 71 SPAs (Special Protection Areas for birds) covering more than one million hectares – 26.15% ofits surface area – in which to date, 340 species of birds (288 of them breeding) have been recorded.
